Project Blue Book Case #1168. On April 29, 1952, a bright object was observed near Goodland, Kansas — a small city on the High Plains near the Colorado border. Goodland sits at approximately 3,700 feet elevation in terrain so flat that the curvature of the Earth is visible. The vast, treeless landscape provided sightlines extending 30 miles or more.
The Kansas High Plains would later host Minuteman ICBM silos, transforming the wheat country into a nuclear weapons landscape. In 1952, the area's strategic significance was just beginning to emerge.
The case was classified "Unknown."
