Project Blue Book Case #1099. On April 6, 1952, a bright object was observed over Temple, Texas — a city located approximately 30 miles south of Fort Hood (now Fort Cavazos), the Army's largest active-duty post. Temple also sat along the main highway and rail corridor connecting Austin and Dallas, making it a transportation hub.
Temple's proximity to Fort Hood meant that military helicopter and fixed-wing traffic was common, and witnesses were familiar with Army aviation. The object's characteristics did not match any aircraft associated with Fort Hood operations. Scott and White Memorial Hospital, one of the region's major medical centers, was located in Temple, adding a professional community of educated observers.
April 1952 was in the early buildup phase that would explode into the great July wave. Central Texas was contributing a growing number of reports, reflecting both the region's military density and the accelerating national pattern.
The object's brightness and controlled movement were documented by witnesses and investigated by Blue Book. All Fort Hood flight operations and civilian traffic were checked without finding a correlation.
The case was classified "Unknown."
