On April 8, 1953, an unidentified object was observed near Fukuoka, Japan — the city adjacent to Itazuke Air Base, a major USAF fighter base on Japan's southern island of Kyushu. Itazuke's F-86 Sabre squadrons had been flying combat missions over Korea, and the base remained on high alert after the armistice discussions stalled. The case was classified "Unknown."
