Project Blue Book Case #2997. On May 11, 1954, a bright object was observed over Washington, D.C. — the second Blue Book unknown from the nation's capital (following Case #3750 from September 1955, which despite a higher case number occurred later). Combined with the famous July 1952 radar events and the Arlington and Andrews AFB cases, the Washington area had become one of the most active regions for unexplained aerial activity in the country.
The capital's comprehensive airspace monitoring infrastructure, specifically reinforced after the 1952 events, could not identify the object. The case was classified "Unknown."
