Project Blue Book Case #3750. On September 7, 1955, a bright object was observed over Washington, D.C. — the nation's capital and the scene of the most famous UFO events in history. The July 1952 radar-visual sightings, when unknown objects were tracked over the White House and Capitol on two consecutive weekends, had generated worldwide headlines and the Pentagon's biggest press conference since World War II.
Three years later, an unknown appeared over the same city. Washington's airspace remained the most restricted and heavily monitored in the country, with the Washington Air Defense Identification Zone requiring identification of every aircraft entering the area. Andrews AFB, Bolling AFB, and the radar systems protecting the capital maintained comprehensive coverage.
The 1955 sighting, while apparently less dramatic than the 1952 radar events, demonstrated that the phenomenon had not abandoned the nation's capital. The object appeared over a city whose entire airspace surveillance infrastructure had been reinforced specifically in response to the 1952 events.
Despite this enhanced monitoring, the object could not be identified. The case was classified "Unknown" — a return engagement in the city that had produced Blue Book's most famous cases.
