Highland Towers in Taman Hillview, Ampang Jaya, was a residential condominium complex that became the site of Malaysia's worst building disaster on December 11, 1993, when Tower 1 collapsed in a landslide, killing 48 residents. The remaining towers, rendered structurally unsafe, were subsequently abandoned and have stood empty since. The ruins of Highland Towers have become one of Malaysia's most feared haunted locations. Those who have ventured near the remaining towers report hearing screams and crying from within the empty structures, seeing lights in the windows, and experiencing the sensation of being watched from the overgrown balconies. Some visitors have described seeing a woman holding a baby near the ruins, and others report the sound of a massive structural collapse — as though Tower 1 is falling again — followed by silence. The site's combination of genuine tragedy, structural danger (the remaining towers could collapse at any time), and intense supernatural reputation makes it one of the most powerful haunted locations in Southeast Asia. The Malaysian government has fenced off the area, but trespassers continue to enter, drawn by the site's dark gravity.
