Genting Highlands, the hilltop resort and casino complex in Pahang, has generated extensive ghost stories among Malaysia's diverse population. The resort sits at 1,740 metres above sea level, frequently enveloped in clouds, and includes hotels, a theme park, and Southeast Asia's only legal casino. Several apartment complexes at Genting — particularly Amber Court and Ria Apartment — have developed notorious reputations for supernatural activity. Guests report doors opening and closing on their own, the television turning on to static, phantom knocking, and seeing figures standing at the foot of their beds. The Genting area is believed by Orang Asli (indigenous) communities to be inhabited by powerful mountain spirits, and the resort's construction on what was previously pristine highland rainforest is said to have disturbed these entities. The combination of the resort's altitude, its frequent cloud cover that reduces the complex to a ghostly outline, and the 24-hour activity of the casino creates an uncanny atmosphere. The casino's Chinese clientele are particularly attuned to supernatural signs, and many visitors perform Buddhist, Taoist, or folk religious rituals before entering the gaming floors.
