Bukit Tunku, previously known as Kenny Hills during the British colonial period, is one of Kuala Lumpur's most exclusive residential areas. The leafy hilltop neighbourhood, with its colonial-era bungalows set among tropical gardens, has been associated with supernatural activity since the British era. Some of the colonial bungalows, many of which have been abandoned or are undergoing redevelopment, are said to be haunted by their former occupants — British officials, plantation owners, and their families who lived in the houses during the Raj. Residents and workers in the area have reported seeing figures in colonial-era clothing on the verandas of empty bungalows, hearing conversation in English from houses that have been vacant for years, and the appearance of a woman in white near the old water tower. The neighbourhood's altitude above the rest of KL, its mature tropical trees, and the relative quiet compared to the bustling city below create an atmosphere of genteel isolation. Bukit Tunku's haunted reputation is particularly notable because it affects one of the most expensive property markets in Malaysia — and some of its most powerful residents have reportedly engaged bomoh to clear their properties.
