Project Blue Book Case #27. On July 3, 1947, an unidentified object was observed over South Brooksville, Maine — a tiny coastal community on the Penobscot Bay. As Case #27, this was among the very earliest entries in the Blue Book archive, from the explosive first week of the modern UFO era. July 3 was the day before the nationwide Fourth of July wave peak.
South Brooksville's position on Maine's rugged Downeast coast provided Atlantic ocean views and maritime isolation. The case was classified "Unknown" — one of the founding entries from the summer that started it all.
