Bright object observed near Loring SAC base at Caribou, Maine (1955)

Project Blue Book Case #3993. On December 21, 1955, a bright object was observed over Caribou, Maine — a community near Loring Air Force Base, SAC's northeasternmost bomber installation. Loring's B-36 and B-52 bombers were positioned for the shortest route to Soviet targets over the polar cap. The winter solstice darkness of northern Maine provided ideal observation conditions. The case was classified "Unknown."
