Chittoor Railway Station in Andhra Pradesh became associated with supernatural phenomena after the 2013 death of a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officer at the station. The circumstances of the officer's death, while officially attributed to natural causes, gave rise to local speculation and ghost stories. Since the death, passengers and railway staff have reported seeing a figure in the uniform of a paramilitary officer standing on the platform at night, hearing military-style boots walking along the tracks, and experiencing equipment malfunctions when trains approach the station. Some train drivers have reported seeing a figure standing on the tracks who does not move despite the approaching locomotive, causing them to apply emergency brakes only to find no one there. Indian railway stations, which serve as the arteries of a nation of 1.4 billion people, have generated a rich body of ghost folklore — the vast network of tracks, the lonely signal boxes, and the platforms that empty after the last train create natural settings for supernatural encounters. Chittoor's haunting represents a modern addition to this tradition.
