Kariavattom Technopark — phantom encounters at Kerala's IT hub

Kariavattom, a suburb of Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, is home to Technopark, the largest IT park in the state. Despite its modern glass-and-steel architecture and thousands of daily workers, the area has generated reports of paranormal encounters. The area around Kariavattom was largely rural before the tech park's development, and local oral tradition associates the land with spirits connected to its agricultural past. In Kerala's rich folklore, female spirits known as yakshi or mohini are among the most feared — beautiful women who appear to lone travelers at night to lure them to their deaths. The juxtaposition of India's booming tech sector with centuries-old supernatural traditions creates a uniquely modern form of haunting, where software engineers encounter entities their grandmothers warned them about.
