Project Blue Book Case #1501. On July 16, 1952, a bright object was observed over Beverly, Massachusetts — a North Shore community approximately 20 miles northeast of Boston. Beverly sits on the coastline between Salem and Gloucester, in an area rich in both maritime and aviation history.
Beverly's proximity to the coast provided unobstructed views over the Atlantic, and the North Shore's dark ocean backdrop made aerial objects stand out with particular clarity. The area was beneath commercial air routes serving Boston's Logan Airport and within range of military operations from Hanscom AFB.
July 16, 1952, was during the great wave's peak week — three days before the first Washington radar events. The case was classified "Unknown."
