Unidentified object observed at Cold Bay AFS on the Aleutian Islands, Alaska (1966)

On October 26, 1966, an unidentified object was observed at Cold Bay Air Force Station — a remote radar and communications installation on the Alaska Peninsula near the Aleutian Islands chain. Cold Bay sat at the very edge of American territory, with the Soviet Union's Kamchatka Peninsula just across the Bering Sea. The station's primary mission was monitoring Soviet military activity in the North Pacific. Personnel at this extreme outpost were trained to identify every type of aircraft in the region. The case was classified "Unknown."
