Project Blue Book Case #4959. On September 20, 1957, an unidentified object was observed at Kadena Air Base, Okinawa — the third Blue Book unknown from Okinawa's massive air installation (joining Cases #984 from 1951 and the Motobu sighting). Kadena was the largest American air base in the Pacific, hosting bomber, fighter, and reconnaissance units that projected power across East Asia.
September 1957 was just two weeks before Sputnik would transform the Cold War. The case was classified "Unknown."
