Hidden near the village of Uig on the Isle of Skye in the Scottish Highlands, the Fairy Glen is a surreal natural landscape of small, perfectly conical hills, winding paths, and a prominent rock formation known as Castle Ewen that resembles a ruined tower. The entire area appears miniaturized, as though designed for beings of diminutive stature — an effect created by landslip geology that formed the unusual terrain thousands of years ago. Local Gaelic tradition has long associated the glen with the fairy folk (Sìthichean in Scottish Gaelic), and it was considered unwise to linger there after dark. Visitors have long created spiral patterns from loose stones on the hillsides, though park authorities have asked this practice to stop due to environmental damage. The Fairy Glen's otherworldly appearance has made it one of the most photographed locations in Scotland and a prominent filming location. The site embodies the Scottish Gaelic concept of the 'thin place' — a location where the boundary between the mortal world and the Otherworld grows gossamer-thin.
