Project Blue Book Case #1295. On June 16, 1952, an unidentified object was observed over Walker Air Force Base near Roswell, New Mexico — the second Blue Book unknown from the base that was home to the 509th Bombardment Wing (following Case #1037 from January 1952 at nearby Artesia). The 509th was the unit that had dropped the atomic bombs on Japan and was at the center of the 1947 Roswell incident.
Walker AFB's continued production of unknowns added to the mystique surrounding the Roswell-Walker corridor. Whether the 1947 incident involved a genuine unknown or not, the area's skies continued producing objects that defied identification by the same nuclear-capable unit. The case was classified "Unknown."
