Project Blue Book Case #1323. On June 22, 1952, U.S. military personnel in Korea reported a second unidentified object over the active combat zone — just two days after Case #1313 on June 20. The occurrence of two unknowns in the Korean theater within 48 hours suggested either a concentrated period of anomalous activity or heightened observer awareness in the combat zone.
The Korean War's air environment in June 1952 was extraordinarily intense. Operation Pressure Pump, a major bombing campaign against North Korean infrastructure, was underway. MiG Alley in the northwest remained the scene of daily air combat between American F-86 Sabres and Communist MiG-15s. Every aircraft in Korean airspace was a potential target or threat.
The rapid succession of two unknowns raised additional concerns. If these objects were enemy technology, their repeat appearance suggested surveillance operations. If they were something else entirely, their presence in an active combat zone was equally troubling — they could be mistaken for hostile aircraft and trigger unnecessary engagements.
Blue Book's investigation through Far East Air Forces channels again failed to identify the object. The case was classified "Unknown."
