Malahide Castle, north of Dublin, was the seat of the Talbot family for nearly 800 years, from 1185 to 1973. The castle is haunted by at least five distinct ghosts, making it one of the most densely populated haunted locations in Ireland. Lord Galtrim, who was killed at the Battle of the Boyne in 1690, roams the castle in full armor. Sir Walter Hussey, a 15th-century lord who was murdered on his wedding day, walks the corridors carrying his sword. The Jester Miles Corbet, who was loyal to the Talbot family, appears throughout the castle. A ghostly woman in white has been seen in the Great Hall. And the 'Puck' — a mischievous spirit of unknown origin — is blamed for objects being moved and doors slamming throughout the castle. The sheer longevity of the Talbot family's occupation created conditions for an accumulation of spirits spanning centuries. The castle's 260-acre grounds, with their botanical gardens and parkland, are also the site of occasional sightings. The morning after the Battle of the Boyne, fourteen Talbot cousins sat down to breakfast in the Great Hall — by that evening, all fourteen were dead. Some believe their spirits have never left the table.
