Ducketts Grove in County Carlow is a ruined Gothic Revival mansion that was home to the Duckett family for 300 years. The estate, which fell into ruin after a fire in 1933, is said to be haunted by a banshee — a female spirit from Irish mythology whose wailing cry foretells the death of a family member. The Duckett family banshee has reportedly been heard throughout the estate's history, her keening cry piercing the night before each family death. Beyond the banshee, the ruins themselves are associated with the ghost of a woman in white who has been seen walking through the roofless rooms and along the overgrown pathways of the former gardens. Some visitors describe hearing music — a piano being played inside the ruin — and the sound of a grand party, as though the house is reliving its years of aristocratic splendor. The estate's atmospheric decay — Gothic arches open to the sky, ivy-covered walls, and ornamental gardens reclaimed by nature — creates one of the most visually striking haunted locations in Ireland. The Duckett family's three centuries of residence left a deep imprint on the land, and the ruin's slow surrender to nature has done nothing to diminish the spiritual activity.
