Kings Park Psychiatric Center in Kings Park, Long Island, New York, was a massive psychiatric hospital complex that operated from 1885 to 1996. At its peak, the facility held over 9,000 patients and was one of the largest psychiatric institutions in the United States. The hospital's history includes overcrowding, understaffing, and documented cases of patient abuse and neglect that were common in large state institutions of the era. Since its closure, the sprawling campus of decaying buildings — particularly the towering Building 93, a 13-story brutalist structure — has become one of New York's most notorious haunted locations. Trespassers who have entered the abandoned buildings report hearing screams and moaning in the hallways, seeing shadow figures moving behind windows, and experiencing intense feelings of sadness and dread. Some report being touched or pushed by unseen forces. The underground tunnel system connecting the buildings is considered particularly active, with reports of disembodied voices and footsteps. The site has been investigated by numerous paranormal groups, many of whom claim to have captured EVP recordings of patients calling out for help. The facility's tragic history and imposing ruins make it one of the most emotionally charged haunted locations in the northeastern United States.
