Hood River, Oregon, a small town in the Columbia River Gorge known for its windsurfing and fruit orchards, was the site of a documented poltergeist case that drew attention from local media and paranormal investigators. Residents of a home in the Hood River area reported a sustained period of violent poltergeist activity that included unexplained fires breaking out in the house, furniture and household objects moving across rooms on their own, and loud banging sounds emanating from the walls and floors. The fires were particularly alarming — small blazes would ignite spontaneously in various locations throughout the house, sometimes multiple fires in a single day. The local fire department was called repeatedly but could find no conventional source for the ignitions. Investigators examined the home's electrical wiring and heating systems without finding an explanation. In addition to the fires, family members described heavy furniture sliding across rooms, doors slamming with tremendous force, and objects being thrown from shelves. The case followed a classic poltergeist pattern, with the activity eventually subsiding after several weeks of intensity. The Hood River case is documented in Pacific Northwest paranormal literature and is considered one of the more credible poltergeist accounts in Oregon history.
