Project Blue Book Case #9806. On August 19, 1965, a young farmhand near Cherry Creek, New York — a rural community in Chautauqua County near the Pennsylvania border — reported a close encounter with an object that descended near the barn where he was working. The object, described as silver and football-shaped, hovered near the ground, causing the barn's cattle to react violently and a tractor's radio to emit static.
Physical effects were reported: a purplish liquid residue was found on the ground, tree branches were broken, and magnetism anomalies were detected in the soil. State police investigated and found the witness credible. The case received investigation from both Blue Book and independent researchers.
The Cherry Creek case became one of the notable close-encounter cases of the mid-1960s, with its combination of a close-range sighting, animal reactions, electromagnetic interference, and physical trace evidence. The case was classified "Unknown."
