Project Blue Book Case #5254. On November 8, 1957, a bright object was observed over Merrick, Long Island — a suburban community in Nassau County approximately 25 miles east of Manhattan. The sighting occurred during the intense November 1957 wave, which had been producing dramatic cases nationwide since the Levelland, Texas, vehicle-interference encounters.
Merrick's position on Long Island's South Shore placed it beneath the approach corridors for JFK International Airport and near Republic Aviation Corporation's factory in Farmingdale, where F-84 and F-105 fighter-bombers were produced. The case was classified "Unknown."
