Project Blue Book Case #3020. On May 31, 1954, witnesses in Concord, New Hampshire — the state capital — observed a bright object in the sky. Concord sits on the Merrimack River in south-central New Hampshire, surrounded by the forested hills of the Granite State.
New Hampshire's military connections included Pease AFB in Portsmouth, a major SAC bomber base on the seacoast approximately 60 miles to the southeast. Pease's B-47 operations generated regular overflights of the state's interior. The object over Concord did not match any Pease operations or civilian traffic.
May 1954 was during a moderate period of Blue Book activity. The case was classified "Unknown."
