Project Blue Book Case #1409. On July 9, 1952, a bright object was observed over Kutztown, Pennsylvania — a small Pennsylvania Dutch community in Berks County. Kutztown sits in the rolling farmland between Allentown and Reading, in a landscape of barns, silos, and stone fences that has changed little since the 18th century.
July 1952 was the opening week of the great wave's most explosive phase. Kutztown's contribution demonstrated that the phenomenon reached into even the most traditional and quiet corners of America. The nearest military presence was the Reading Municipal Airport, which hosted Air National Guard operations.
The case was classified "Unknown."
