Project Blue Book Case #1405. On July 9, 1952, a bright object was observed over Colorado Springs, Colorado — the city that would soon become one of the most militarily significant in America. The Air Force Academy was under construction, and Cheyenne Mountain — future home of NORAD's underground command center — rose at the city's southwestern edge. Ent Air Force Base (headquarters of the Air Defense Command) and Fort Carson already made the city a major military center.
An unknown over the future home of continental air defense was grimly ironic. The very city being built to defend against aerial threats couldn't identify this one. July 1952 was at the wave's peak. The case was classified "Unknown."
