Project Blue Book Case #1124. On April 17, 1952, witnesses in Longmeadow, Massachusetts — an affluent suburb south of Springfield — observed a bright object in the sky. Longmeadow sits in the Connecticut River valley, approximately 5 miles from Westover Air Force Base, the massive SAC installation that dominated the region's airspace.
Westover's bombers and tankers generated constant air traffic, and residents of the Springfield area were thoroughly familiar with the appearance of military aircraft at all altitudes. The object over Longmeadow did not match any Westover operations.
April 1952 was in the early buildup phase of the great wave. The case was classified "Unknown."
