Project Blue Book Case #3810. On October 11, 1955, witnesses at Point Lookout, Maryland — a spit of land where the Potomac River empties into the Chesapeake Bay — observed a bright object in the sky. Point Lookout's dramatic waterfront setting provided unobstructed views over the broad expanse of the Bay and lower Potomac.
Point Lookout sits at the southern tip of St. Mary's County, approximately 10 miles south of the Patuxent River Naval Air Test Center. The Chesapeake Bay's military significance — with Navy, Air Force, and Army facilities lining both shores — made it one of the most observed waterways in the country. The open water provided a dark background against which aerial objects stood out clearly.
The case was classified "Unknown."
