Project Blue Book Case #896. On February 26, 1951, an unidentified object was reported over Durban, South Africa — the country's third-largest city and its busiest port, on the Indian Ocean coast of KwaZulu-Natal. This was the second Blue Book case from South Africa (following the Cape Province sighting of 1954, which despite occurring later was filed separately). Durban's strategic position along the Cape sea route and its British Commonwealth military connections meant reports reached American intelligence. The case was classified "Unknown."
