Project Blue Book Case #821. On October 15, 1950, an unidentified object was observed over Pope Air Force Base, North Carolina — the transport airfield adjacent to Fort Bragg, the Army's airborne warfare center. Pope's C-119 and C-82 transport aircraft carried the 82nd Airborne Division's paratroopers on training jumps and operational deployments.
Pope AFB would later produce another Blue Book case associated with the Fort Bragg complex (Case #5857 from June 1958). The combined Fort Bragg-Pope installation was one of the most elite military communities in the world, with exceptional observation skills and security awareness.
October 1950 was during the Korean War. The case was classified "Unknown."
