Project Blue Book Case #1920. On August 18, 1952, an unidentified object was observed at Fairfield, California — adjacent to what was then Fairfield-Suisun AFB (now Travis AFB), the Air Force's primary West Coast transport hub. This was the second Blue Book unknown from the base, following Case #257 from December 1948.
Travis AFB in August 1952 was operating at high tempo, supporting Korean War logistics with a constant stream of transport aircraft crossing the Pacific. The base's runways were among the busiest military airfields on the West Coast, handling C-54s, C-97s, and C-124 Globemasters carrying troops, equipment, and casualties.
The August 1952 sighting came during the great wave's peak. The repetition of an unknown at the same base that had produced a case four years earlier was noted by investigators — either the base was a recurring focal point for anomalous activity, or its exceptionally busy airspace simply generated more observation opportunities.
The object did not match any of the diverse aircraft types that transited Travis daily. Base operations confirmed all flights were accounted for. The case was classified "Unknown" — the second entry from this critical Pacific gateway.
