The Old Spaghetti Factory in the historic Gastown district of Vancouver, British Columbia, is one of the city's most well-known haunted restaurants. The building, a converted warehouse, has been the site of ghost sightings since the restaurant opened. The most commonly reported ghost is a well-dressed man who appears seated at a table in the lower dining area, looking as though he is waiting for someone. When staff approach to take his order, he vanishes. Other phenomena include plates and cutlery moving on their own, unexplained cold drafts sweeping through the dining room, and the sound of footsteps on the upper level when no one is there. The restaurant's location in Gastown — Vancouver's oldest neighbourhood, founded in 1867 by 'Gassy Jack' Deighton — connects it to the city's earliest history. The area was devastated by the Great Vancouver Fire of 1886, which destroyed nearly all of the settlement in less than an hour, killing at least 20 people. Some investigators connect the restaurant's haunting to the fire's victims, while others attribute it to the building's history as a warehouse that may have stored goods from the nearby harbour, including some that were involved in tragic maritime incidents.
