The Geiser Grand Hotel in Baker City, Oregon, is a grand Italianate hotel built in 1889 during the eastern Oregon gold rush. The hotel was the finest accommodation between Salt Lake City and Portland, and its ornate interior — with a stained-glass ceiling, crystal chandeliers, and a sweeping mahogany staircase — attracted wealthy miners, ranchers, and travelers. After decades of decline and an extensive restoration in the 1990s, the hotel reopened and the ghost stories began in earnest. The most frequently reported apparition is the Lady in Blue, described as a woman in a long blue gown who is seen ascending the main staircase before vanishing at the landing. Hotel guests have reported their room doors opening and closing on their own, the sound of a woman's laughter in empty hallways, and the scent of perfume in rooms that have been sealed for days. Room 302 is considered the most active, with guests reporting the sensation of someone sitting on the edge of the bed. Staff members have also described seeing a spectral woman reflected in the large mirrors throughout the hotel. The identity of the Lady in Blue remains unknown, though some connect her to a woman who died in the hotel during the gold rush era.
