Project Blue Book Case #1944. On August 21, 1952, witnesses in Dallas, Texas, observed a formation of lights moving across the sky above the city. Multiple luminous objects maintaining relative positions suggested coordinated flight — a phenomenon that ruled out most natural explanations.
Dallas in 1952 was a major commercial and military aviation center. Love Field served as the city's primary airport, handling heavy commercial traffic, while several military facilities operated in the greater Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. Carswell AFB in Fort Worth, approximately 30 miles to the west, hosted Strategic Air Command bombers. Hensley Field in Grand Prairie served as a Naval Air Station and Air National Guard facility.
The formation of lights was observed during the peak of the August 1952 wave activity. Dallas-Fort Worth's contribution to the Blue Book files reflected the region's population, aviation awareness, and military significance. The metropolitan area's experienced observers — pilots, air traffic controllers, and military personnel — provided a strong base of credible witnesses.
Formation sightings were among the most difficult to explain conventionally. While military aircraft frequently flew in formation, the lights observed over Dallas did not match any military formation flight scheduled for the area. Their appearance, spacing, and movement characteristics were inconsistent with conventional aircraft.
All flight operations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area were checked without finding a correlation. The case was classified "Unknown."
