The stretch of Dhaka Airport Road between the Nikunja residential area and the Biman Bangladesh Airlines offices has earned a reputation as one of the most haunted roadways in Bangladesh's capital. Drivers and pedestrians traveling this segment at night report seeing unexplained lights hovering above the road, figures standing at the roadside who vanish when headlights approach, and feeling sudden, inexplicable drops in temperature inside their vehicles. The road passes through a relatively undeveloped area near the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, and the sparse lighting and lack of pedestrian traffic after dark contribute to its eerie atmosphere. In Bangladeshi folklore, such phenomena are often attributed to jinns — supernatural beings from Islamic tradition — or to the spirits of those who died in road accidents, of which there are many in this fast-traffic corridor. Some locals believe the hauntings are connected to disturbed burial grounds or to the bodies of unidentified victims of accidents who were never properly laid to rest according to Islamic rites. The road's haunted reputation is well-known among Dhaka residents, and many taxi and rickshaw drivers refuse to travel the stretch alone after midnight.
