Project Blue Book Case #2086. On September 14, 1952, a bright object was observed over Santa Barbara, California — the coastal city nestled between the Santa Ynez Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. Vandenberg AFB (then Camp Cooke) was under development approximately 60 miles to the northwest. Santa Barbara's University of California campus added an academically minded observer population.
