Project Blue Book Case #2052. On September 7, 1952, a bright object was observed over San Antonio, Texas — the second Blue Book unknown from this heavily militarized city in the 1952 wave (the first being Case #1236 from May 29). San Antonio's extraordinary concentration of Air Force installations — Lackland, Kelly, Randolph, and Brooks — made it one of the most watched skies in the military.
The September sighting came during the waning phase of the great wave but continued the pattern of unexplained objects appearing over major military complexes. San Antonio's contribution of two unknowns during 1952 was consistent with the broader trend of military installations reporting disproportionate numbers of cases.
By September 1952, the San Antonio military community was well aware of the UFO phenomenon — the summer's reports had been national news, and the Washington, D.C., radar events in July had generated enormous attention. Observers at the city's bases would have been both more vigilant and more cautious about reporting, creating a useful quality filter.
The object's brightness and behavior were described as inconsistent with any aircraft operating from the four Air Force bases in the area. All flight operations were cross-checked with the observation time, and no match was found.
The case was classified "Unknown," making San Antonio one of the cities that contributed multiple unresolved cases to the 1952 record.
