Project Blue Book Case #8182. On October 23, 1962, witnesses in Farmington, Utah — a community on the Wasatch Front between Salt Lake City and Ogden — observed a bright object. The Wasatch Front corridor was home to Hill Air Force Base in Ogden, one of the Air Force's largest logistics depots, and the Dugway Proving Ground chemical/biological weapons testing facility to the west. Utah's clear mountain air and the dramatic Wasatch Range provided excellent observation conditions.
October 1962 came just weeks after the Cuban Missile Crisis. Military readiness remained elevated. The case was classified "Unknown."
