Bolton Mansion, also known as the Phineas Pemberton House, in Levittown, Pennsylvania, is one of the oldest buildings in Bucks County, dating to the late 17th century. The house was built by Phineas Pemberton, a prominent Quaker who arrived with William Penn's original fleet of settlers. The mansion has been the subject of ghost reports for generations, with the phenomena described as a textbook residual haunting — the same events repeating in the same locations, seemingly without awareness of or interaction with the living. Visitors and staff at the historic property have described hearing footsteps walking the same path through the house at the same time of day, the sound of a woman humming a melody in the kitchen area, and seeing a figure in Quaker clothing standing at a window who does not respond to attempts at communication. The phenomena appear to be recordings of daily life from centuries past, playing back in the same space where they originally occurred. Some visitors have described smelling bread baking and hearing the clatter of dishes from the kitchen, as though a centuries-old meal is being prepared. The Bolton Mansion's extraordinary age and its continuous occupation since the 1680s give it one of the longest potential timelines for haunting of any building in the United States.
