The barangay of Pig-ot in the municipality of Loon, Bohol, sits along a stretch of highway where the veil between the human world and the spirit world appears to be unusually thin. Motorists, residents, and pedestrians have reported a concentration of supernatural phenomena along this road — from photographic orbs to full-bodied apparitions — that has made Pig-ot one of the most supernaturally active communities on the island.
The most distinctive apparitions are the "black ladies" — female figures dressed entirely in dark clothing who appear along the roadside, particularly in the hilly section of the highway. Unlike the more common "white lady" archetype found throughout the Philippines, the black ladies of Pig-ot are described as solid-looking, their dark garments absorbing the light around them to an unnatural degree. They stand motionless at the roadside, their faces difficult to discern, and they do not react when approached — they simply cease to be visible, as if they were never there.
The hilly portion of the highway is also reputed to be a gathering place for engkantos — supernatural beings from the Visayan spirit world who hold their assemblies on the elevated ground. Residents living near the hills report hearing music and voices drifting from the elevation at night, sounds of celebration that have no visible source. Lights have been seen moving along the hilltop in formations that don't correspond to any human activity.
Orbs — spherical luminous phenomena captured on photographs and sometimes visible to the naked eye — are reported with particular frequency along this stretch. Whether interpreted as spirit manifestations, atmospheric phenomena, or photographic artifacts, their concentration in Pig-ot adds to the location's reputation as a convergence point for supernatural activity.
In Boholano tradition, the coexistence of multiple entity types in a single location suggests the presence of a "lugar" — a power spot where the boundaries between worlds overlap, and where the spirits of the dead, the engkantos of the unseen realm, and the elemental forces of the natural world occupy the same space.
